Questions
What should I bring to the sauna?
Water, sliders/flip flops, swimwear and towels to dry off.
How long should I stay in the sauna?
For beginners, start with a 10 to 15-minute session and see how you feel. There is no correct amount of time to be spent between the sauna and cold plunges. Each experience is subjective and it is a safe space to relax and unwind.
How long is a session?
Sessions are 45 minutes long.
What should I do after the sauna?
It's recommended to cool down slowly. You can take a cool shower to rinse off sweat and close your pores. It's also essential to rehydrate by drinking plenty of water, mineral water, or juice. We also recommend a walk in the lovely grounds of An Grianán.
Do I need to book?
Yes, we recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred time. Our sessions can fill up quickly, especially during peak times.
Is it okay to pour water on the rocks?
Pouring a small amount of water on the rocks creates a burst of steam, known as löyly in Finnish. This increases the humidity and makes the heat feel more intense.
Are there toilets on site?
There are no toilets at the sauna itself, but you can use the toilets in the garden centre and in An Grianán house.
Is there somewhere to change?
Yes, we have got male and female changing rooms on site.
Is there an age limit?
An Ghrian Sauna is strictly over 16s only.
Can I use the sauna if I am pregnant or have a health condition?
If you are pregnant, have a heart condition or high or low blood pressure, check with your doctor before you book.
Can I book the sauna privately?
Yes. Private bookings are on enquiry, as the price depends on the number of people. Email us at anghriansauna@gmail.com and we’ll get back to you.
